Parenting in the NICU can bring feelings of doubt and inadequacy. One thought many NICU parents struggle with is, "I’m not a good parent because I can’t care for my baby on my own. I feel like the doctors and nurses are the real parents right now." For bereaved families, these doubts can turn into wondering if we could have done more or been enough. It’s so easy to feel like you’re not enough, but let’s take a moment to reframe that. Being a good parent doesn’t mean doing it all yourself. It means making sure your baby gets the care they need, whether from medical staff, specialists, or you. The medical team is part of my baby’s care, but I am always their parent. My love, decisions, and presence shape their world in ways no one else can. What’s one way you’ve shown love and care for your baby recently? If it feels right, share your story with us so we can celebrate your strength.
